Paul is a member of the vibrant co‑operative Fireworks Clay Studios, located in Cardiff City Centre. He is also a Selected Member of the Craft Potters Association and has been the recipient of numerous Arts Council of Wales grants.
His hand‑built sculptural vessels are inspired by our interconnectedness with nature’s seasons and cycles. The correlation between the slower, emerging rhythms of nature and the making processes - which harness the innate qualities of the materials and lead to alchemical developments within the kiln- underpins his work.
Paul is drawn to the vessel as a powerful symbol of civilisation, one that echoes the built environment in which he lives. In contrast, naturally occurring textures found in both urban and rural settings continually interact with and disrupt this sense of order. Surfaces undergo energetic change and transformation through forces of growth and decay, and these events -the evidence of lived moments - are understood by him as life‑affirming.

Mae Paul yn aelod o’r gydweithfa fywiog Stiwdios Clai Fireworks yng nghanol Caerdydd. Mae hefyd yn Aelod Dethol o Gymdeithas y Crochenwyr Crefft ac mae wedi derbyn cymorthdaliadau niferus gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru.
Ysbrydolir ei lestri cerfluniol wedi’u hadeiladu â llaw gan ein cydgysylltiad â thymhorau a chylchredau byd natur. Mae’r cydberthynas gyda rhythmau arafach, cynyddol amlwg, natur a’r broses greadigol - sy’n harneisio nodweddion cynhenid y deunyddiau ac yn arwain at ddatblygiadau alcemegol o fewn yr odyn – yn sail i’w waith.
Caiff Paul ei ddenu i’r llestr fel symbol grymus o wareiddiad, un sy’n adleisio’r amgylchedd adeiledig y mae’n byw ynddo. Mewn cyferbyniad, mae’r gweadeddau sy’n digwydd yn naturiol a geir mewn lleoliadau trefol a gwledig hefyd yn rhyngweithio’n barhaol gyda, ac yn tarfu ar, yr ymdeimlad hwn o drefn. Drwy rymoedd twf a dirywiad, mae arwynebau yn newid ac yn trawsffurfio’n egnïol, a chaiff y digwyddiadau hyn – tystiolaeth o enydau o fyw – eu deall yn ei dyb eu bod yn cadarnhau bywyd.

Cylinder Vessel
Paul’s work is inspired by nature and landscapes and embraces contrasts of control and chance within the making process. Textures that manifest naturally on surfaces within diverse urban and rural landscapes, are fundamental to his practice and he expresses his relationship to these through the coil-built sculptural vessel form and glazed surface. It is the correlation between the slower emerging cycles of nature and the making process leading to alchemical developments within the kiln that underpins his work.
All the vessels shown below are in stoneware with multiple oxidised slips and glazes.

Mae gwaith Paul wedi’i ysbrydoli gan natur a thirweddau ac mae’n cofleidio cyferbyniadau o reolaeth a siawns o fewn y broses wneud. Mae gweadau sy'n amlygu'n naturiol ar arwynebau o fewn tirweddau trefol a gwledig amrywiol, yn sylfaenol i'w ymarfer ac mae'n mynegi ei berthynas â'r rhain trwy'r ffurf llestr cerfluniol a adeiladwyd gan y coil a'r arwyneb gwydrog. Y gydberthynas rhwng y cylchoedd arafach sy'n datblygu ym myd natur a'r broses wneud sy'n arwain at ddatblygiadau alcemegol o fewn yr odyn sy'n sail i'w waith.
