A new series of craft work in focus from Welsh ceramic makers
Series curation: Wendy Lawrence
Eluned Glyn is inspired by the form of classic ceramics from the 21st Century. The Bauhaus and Cubist movements have been her points of reference, using their concept of well-considered forms that concentrates on the bare fundamental values of design. Within her work, she aims to combine the division between fine art, craft and applied arts and give ceramics the same status as other art forms. By deconstructing and re-creating classical Victorian forms from charity shops there is a chance encounter between newly created ceramic objects and their ancestors. The collection aims to be both beautifully engineered and simplistic reflecting the redundancy of colour that are typically present in modernist design. The forms speak for themselves, and the decorative, colourful qualities of Victorian ceramics are cast aside – but retaining the forms inspired by historical ceramics, which gives a ghost-like feel to the work.
The ghost-like simplicity of the collection reflects the redundancy of colour that are typically absent in modernist design. The forms speak for themselves, and the decorative, colourful qualities of Victorian ceramics are cast aside – leaving a faint trail of past ceramics to these contemporary ceramic objects.
It is the marriage of form and function that intrigues her and the distortion of the domestic object, which is familiar, yet foreign in form.

Cyfres newydd o waith crefft mewn ffocws gan wneuthurwyr serameg Cymreig
Curadur y gyfres: Wendy Lawrence
Mae Eluned Glyn wedi’i hysbrydoli gan ffurf serameg glasurol o’r 21ain Ganrif. Mae’r mudiadau Bauhaus a Ciwbaidd wedi bod yn bwyntiau cyfeirio iddi, gan ddefnyddio eu cysyniad o ddarnau wedi’u dylunio’n ystyriol sy’n canolbwyntio ar werthoedd sylfaenol dylunio. O fewn eu gwaith, mae’n ceisio cyfuno’r rhaniad rhwng Celfyddyd Gain, Crefft a Chelfyddydau cymhwysol gan roi’r un statws i serameg â chelfyddydau eraill. Trwy ddadadeiladu ac ail-greu ffurfiau clasurol Fictorianaidd eu gwedd o siopau elusen, mae cyfle i ddod ar draws gwrthrychau serameg newydd a’u hynafiaid. Nod y casgliad yw bod yn beirianyddol hardd ac yn syml, gan adlewyrchu diswyddiad lliw sy’n nodweddiadol o ddyluniadau modernaidd. Mae’r darnau yn siarad drostynt eu hunain, ac mae rhinweddau addurnol, lliwgar Fictorianaidd yn cael eu rhoi o’r neilltu – gan gadw eu hysbrydoliaeth yn eu ffurf, sy’n rhoi elfen ysbrydol i’r gwaith.
Mae symlrwydd tebyg i ysbrydion gan y casgliad, sy’n adlewyrchu diffyg lliw sydd fel rheol yn absennol mewn dyluniadau modernaidd. Mae’r ffurfiau’n siarad drostynt eu hunain, ac mae rhinweddau addurniadol, lliwgar cerameg Fictoraidd yn cael eu rhoi o’r neilltu – gan adael ysbrydoliaeth o gerameg y gorffennol i’r gwrthrychau cerameg cyfoes hyn.
Y berthynas rhwng ffurf a swyddogaeth sy’n bwysig iddi ac afluniad y gwrthrych domestig sy’n gyfarwydd yn eu ffurf, ond yn estron yn y dyluniad.
