Curated by Prestatyn-based artist and curator Nick Davies funded by the Arts Council of Wales, this residency includes a range of newly commissioned works by 12 contemporary artists Dominic Allan, Nicola Bealing, Nick Davies, Steven Emmanuel, Rosie Gibbens, Thomas Goddard, Rebecca Gould, Ellie Hoskins, Cinzia Mutigli, Georgia Nielson, Sam Venables, and Sue Williams.

The work on display is not exactly about Prestatyn, but about the disturbing poem Sunny Prestatyn and its problematic poet Philip Larkin. It describes a poster of a girl in a swimsuit saying “Come to Sunny Prestatyn” and its eventual decline into debauched defacements and erasure on a train station platform. Written over 60 years ago, the poem touches on issues still relevant today, such as women’s safety, toxic masculinity, the effects of advertising, and the potentially violent feelings of those left without a voice.

There is adult content in some of the artworks on display as there was in the original poem.

Curadwyd y preswyliad gan yr artist a’r curadur Nick Davies sydd wedi ymsefydlu ym Mhrestatyn. Mae’r preswyliad, a gyllidwyd gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, yn cynnwys ystod o waith sydd newydd gael ei gomisiynu gan Dominic Allan, Nicola Bealing, Nick Davies, Steven Emmanuel, Rosie Gibbens, Thomas Goddard, Rebecca Gould, Ellie Hoskins, Cinzia Mutigli, Georgia Nielson, Sam Venables a Sue Williams.

Nid yw’r gwaith sydd arddangos yn ymwneud yn llwyr â Phrestatyn ond ynglŷn â’r gerdd aflonyddol Sunny Prestatyn a’r bardd dadleuol Philip Larkin a’i cyfansoddodd. Mae’n disgrifio poster o ferch mewn siwt nofio yn dweud “Come to Sunny Prestatyn” a’i ddirywiad yn y pen draw ar blatfform gorsaf drenau o’i anharddu anllad i’w ddilead. Mae’r gerdd a ysgrifennwyd dros 60 mlynedd yn ôl yn cyffwrdd â phynciau sy’n dal yn berthnasol heddiw megis diogelwch merched, gwrywdod milain, effeithiau hysbysebu a theimladau treisgar posibl y rheiny sydd wedi’u hamddifadu o lais.

Fel y gerdd wreiddiol, mae cynnwys rhai o’r gweithiau celf yn fwy addas i oedolion.
