The Button Project is an ongoing experiment in curating and creative collaboration. It began when writer and curator Jo Dahn sent a message to ceramics practitioners, asking them to make a button and post it to her:
I’m planning an exhibition and I’d like to invite you to make me a button (or buttons) for inclusion. Buttons can be any size and as simple or as complicated as you like, but each should have at least two holes in it, or a closed loop on the reverse – so that in theory it could function as buttons generally do.
In this exhibition viewers can see the buttons that have arrived so far; currently there are 700+. Although the majority are from Britain, buttons have been sent from many other parts of the world: including Australia, Brazil, Mexico, France, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, the USA, China and Thailand. There is no selection process – everything is shown – and the exhibition includes buttons made by children as well as buttons made by well-known ceramicists. The Button Project was conceived as an open-ended event and buttons continue to arrive.

Arbrawf sy’n dal i ddatblygu yw’r Prosiect Botymau, arbrawf o guradu a chydweithio creadigol. Dechreuodd yn 2013 pan anfonodd Jo Dahn neges at geramegwyr, yn gofyn iddyn nhw wneud botwm a’i anfon ati:
Rwy’n cynllunio arddangosfa a hoffwn eich gwahodd i wneud botwm (neu fotymau) i mi i’w cynnwys. Gall y botymau fod o unrhyw faint a chyn symled neu mor gymhleth ag y dymunwch, ond rhaid bod o leiaf dau dwll ymhob un, neu ddolen gaeëdig ar y cefn – fel y gallant yn ddamcaniaethol weithredu fel y gwna botymau yn gyffredinol.
Yn yr arddangosfa hon gall gwylwyr weld y botymau sydd wedi cyrraedd hyd yma; ar hyn o bryd mae yna 700+. Er mai o Brydain y mae’r mwyafrif, mae botymau wedi’u hanfon o lawer o rannau eraill y byd: yn cynnwys Awstralia, Brasil, Mecsico, Ffrainc, yr Almaen, y Ffindir, yr Iseldiroedd, Rwmania, Sbaen, Unol Daleithiau America, Tsieina a Gwlad Thai. Does yna ddim proses o ddethol – fe ddangosir popeth – ac mae’r arddangosfa’n cynnwys botymau wedi’u gwneud gan blant yn ogystal â botymau wedi’u gwneud gan seramegyddion adnabyddus. Fe feddyliwyd am y Prosiect Botymau fel digwyddiad penagored ac mae botymau’n dal i gyrraedd.
