Lasting Impressions takes a closer look at how craftspeople make and the processes they use to produce an object that will last. This exhibition celebrates the crafting of objects that will become tomorrow’s heirlooms; pieces with a timeless quality constructed from the best raw materials with integrity and ingenuity.
Craft can offer us something unique, bespoke and personal. These selected designer makers excel in their personal creative making skill and include their signature, something of themselves into every object they make. Their immense skills must be celebrated and not be overshadowed in our modern consumer driven world.
In examining the bespoke, we also explore collecting – it is a very special thing to commission an wholy new piece of jewellery or furniture, when you can discuss its attributes with it’s creator and have made exactly to fit. To understand where the materials are sourced, how it is designed, put together and finished. The exhibition considers the commissioning process and talks to collectors of contemporary craft about why they choose to invest in contemporary talent.

Mae Argraffiadau sy’n Aros yn edrych yn fanylach ar y ffordd y bydd pobl crefftau’n gwneud a’r prosesau y byddan nhw’n eu defnyddio i gynhyrchu gwrthrych a fydd yn para. Mae’r arddangosfa hon yn dathlu’r ffordd y bydd gwrthrychau’n cael eu saernïo – gwrthrychau a fydd yn eiddo etifeddol y dyfodol; darnau ag ansawdd diamser wedi’u llunio o’r deunydd crai goraf gyda gonestrwydd a chywreinrwydd.
Gall crefft gynnig rhywbeth unigryw, pwrpasol a phersonol i ni. Mae’r gwneuthurwyr-ddylunwyr dewisol hyn yn rhagori yn eu sgiliau gwneud creadigol personol ac yn cynnwys eu llofnod, peth ohonyn nhw’u hunain ym mhob gwrthrych y byddan nhw’n ei wneud. Mae’n rhaid dathlu eu sgiliau eang nid gadael iddyn nhw gael eu taflu i’r cysgod yn ein byd modern ni o ddefnyddwyr.
Wrth archwilio’r arbennig, byddwn hefyd yn archwilio casglu – mae’n beth arbennig iawn comisiynu darn cwbl newydd o emwaith neu ddodrefn, pan allwch drafod ei briodweddau â’i grëwr a chael ei wneud i ffitio’n union, i ddeall ble mae tarddiad y defnyddiau, sut y bydd yn cael ei ddylunio, ei roi at ei gilydd a’i orffen. Mae’r arddangosfa’n ystyried y broses o gomisiynu ac yn siarad â chasglwyr crefft gyfoes am eu rheswm am ddewis buddsoddi mewn dawn gyfoes.
