Designer-made, one-of-a kind jewellery is having a moment: a Golden Age, worthy of celebration. Jewellery Now presents a rare snapshot of inspirational jewellery today, made by some of the best and most interesting designer jewellers from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. From the most experienced to those making exceptional work at the start of their careers, discover breathtaking technical skills, exciting experimentation with materials, innovative processes and imaginative responses to grave ethical and environmental concerns.
Gallery 1 features the extraordinary range of materials and processes jewellers are using in their current practice. Their creativity and skill are particularly striking at a time of adverse economic challenges and devastating cuts to skills-based education. Their work owes much to the legacy of pioneering makers working from the 1960s onwards.
Gallery 2 shines a spotlight on some of those in the vanguard of breaking down traditional constraints and challenging perceptions of what jewellery could be. Consummate makers, several have also been educators, passing on their skills and insights to younger generations.
