Bethan Hughes’ Pwytho Llais (Stitching a Voice) is a collection of textile work exploring themes of democracy, politics, identity and community. “Many of the quilts feature the small cross mark we make for many reasons, and I have focussed on its symbolism as the vote and the kiss.”

Look closely. Notice the words and symbols that have been printed so deliberatively, and captured like shadows amongst layers of fabrics and threads. Listen carefully to the chatter of stitches as they scribble furiously across their soft canvases. Hear the hushed clamour rising…

These quilts are talking to us, if we choose to listen.

Casgliad o waith tecstil sy’n archwilio themâu yn ymwneud â democratiaeth, gwleidyddiaeth, hunaniaeth a chymuned yw Pwytho Llais gan Bethan Hughes. “Mae llawer o’r cwiltiau’n cynnwys y marc o groes fach rydyn ni’n ei wneud a hynny am nifer o resymau, ac rwyf wedi canolbwyntio ar ei symbolaeth o’r bleidlais a’r gusan.”

Mae ‘na angerdd yn y cwiltiau hyn. Mae yma lafur cariad – at genedl, at gymuned ac at iaith.
Sylwch yn ofalus ar y cwiltiau. Ar y geiriau sydd wedi eu hargraffu. Clustfeiniwch ar sŵn y pwythau’n siarad wrth iddyn nhw sgwennu’n brysur ar draws y tudalennau meddal. Gwrandwch ar y twrw tawel…

Mae’r cwiltiau hyn yn sgwrsio â ni, os dewiswn ni wrando.
