Hadau (or ‘Seeds’ in English) was commissioned for the National Eisteddfod in Bala 2009 and saw artist Christine Mills and composer Guto Puw working in collaboration on their response to the Welsh verse singing tradition of Cerdd Dant.

The idea for the project was planted for Christine when she saw the gosodiadau (or compositions) written by Guto Puw’s grandfather, WH Pugh, on some old envelopes. The envelopes were addressed to WH Pugh and the postage marks on the front of the envelopes were from seed growers. The gosodiadau were inside, written in their tiny rows, like the original seeds, which have by now been dispersed and planted, like his skills which have been handed down to the next generation.

Artist and composer invited poet, Andrea Parry, to work with them on a performance where Guto Puw’s musical composition, along with Andrea’s written piece are performed in the installation space created by Christine Mills.

Comisiynwyd Hadau gan yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn y Bala 2009 a gwelwyd yr artist Christine Mills a’r cyfansoddwr Guto Puw yn cydweithio ar eu hymateb arbennig hwy i gerdd dant.

Plannwyd y syniad yn Christine pan welodd y gosodiadau wnaed gan W H Pugh, taid Guto, ar hen amlenni. Yr oedd yr amlenni wedi eu cyfeirio at W H Pugh a’r marciau post ar y clawr yn dynodi eu bod wedi cael eu hanfon gan dyfwyr hadau. Yr oedd y gosodiadau y tu mewn mewn rhesi culion yn union fel hadau ond erbyn hyn y maent wedi eu gwasgaru a’u plannu. yn union fel y mae doniau W H Pugh wedi cael eu hetifeddu gan y genhedlaeth nesaf.

Gwahoddwyd y bardd Andrea Parry gan yr artist a’r cyfansoddwr i gydweithio gyda nhw mewn perfformiad o gerddoriaeth Guto Puw a darnau o waith barddonol Andrea yn y gofod arbennig a grewyd gan Christine Mills.
