Julie Blyfield’s work is inspired by the botanical landscape in Australia. She interprets this in metal using the techniques of ‘metal raising’ and ‘chasing’. Julie enjoys exploring and collecting plant specimens from the rich and diverse environment her homeland offers, from places such as the Simpson Desert in the north of South Australia and further south around the coast of Kangaroo Island. She works with both pure silver and sterling silver her “preferred choice of material” and textures the surface to create individual pieces of jewellery, vessels and also more sculptural pieces. “During the making process, I enjoy the way the metal ‘moves and shifts’ in almost unpredictable ways to create the organic forms which shimmer with the silver textures or colours derived from nature.”

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.

Ysbrydolwyd gwaith Julie Blyfield gan y tirwedd botanegol yn Awstralia. Mae hi yn dehongli hyn mewn metel gan ddefnyddio technegau ‘codi metel’ a ‘siasio’. Mae Julie yn mwynhau archwilio a chasglu sbesimenau planhigion o’r amgylchedd cyfoethog ac amryfal mae ei mamwlad yn gynnig, o lefydd megis Anialwch Simpsons yng ngogledd De Awstralia ac ymhellach i’r de, ar hyd arfordir Ynys Kangaroo. Mae hi’n gweithio gydag arian pur ac arian aloi coeth ei “hoff ddeunydd o ddewis” gan weadu’r arwyneb i greu darnau o emwaith unigol, llestri a darnau mwy cerfluniol hefyd. “Yn ystod y broses wneud, rwy’n mwynhau’r ffordd y mae’r metel yn ‘symud a syflyd’, mewn ffyrdd sydd bron yn anragweladwy, gan greu ffurfiau organig sy’n pelydru oherwydd y gweadau arian neu’r lliwiau sy’n deillio o fyd natur.”

Mae’r prosiect hwn wedi cael ei gynorthwyo gan y Llywodraeth Awstralia drwy Gyngor Awstralia, ei gyllid celfyddydau a chorff ymgynghorol.
