Spirit of Place is the essence of Pauline Burbidge’s work. Being ‘as still as a needle’ and absorbing the natural environment has been a constant preoccupation. Since moving her home and studio to rural Scotland in 1993, the engagement with the land that surrounds her has increasingly become the leitmotif for most of her practice.

As Pauline says inspiration is ‘peaceful places in the landscape and just absorbing them… the same feeling of calm I have when I’m stitching… being absorbed in the work… stitching is a bit like meditation… the simplicity of it centres me.’

Quiltscapes & Quiltline, celebrates the new work of Pauline Burbidge, shown first at The Bowes Museum and now at Ruthin Craft Centre.

This is a touring exhibition in collaboration with The Bowes Museum.

Ysbryd Lle yw hanfod gwaith Pauline Burbidge. Mae bod ‘mor llonydd â nodwydd’ ac amsugno’r amgylchedd naturiol wedi bod yn ddiddordeb cyson. Ers symud ei chartref a’i stiwdio i’r Alban wledig yn 1993, mae’r ymgysylltiad â’r tir sydd o’i chwmpas wedi dod yn leitmotif cynyddol i’r rhan fwyaf o’i harfer.

Ys dywed Pauline, ysbrydoliaeth yw ‘mannau tawel yn y dirwedd a dim ond eu hamsugno… yr un teimlad o dawelwch fydd gen i pan fydda i’n pwytho… wedi ymgolli yn y gwaith… mae pwytho’n eithaf tebyg i fyfyrdod… mae ei symlrwydd yn rhoi canolbwynt i mi.’

Mae Quiltscapes & Quiltline, yn dathlu gwaith newydd Pauline Burbidge, a ddangoswyd yn gyntaf yn Amgueddfa Bowes ac yn awr yng Nghanolfan Grefft Rhuthun.
