“Being Welsh, but inspired by Folk Art from Eastern Europe has meant that my life and artistic practice has been entwined across many countries. Room within a Room is a culmination of my favourite drawings from many journeys and contains – amongst other things – a blouse and cap from Slovakia, a red striped bed-gown and a three-legged table from Wales, a chair from the wine museum in Bratislava.”

In 2014 Julia was awarded a Creative Wales Ambassador Award to revisit Eastern Europe and spend some time at Ruthin Craft Centre developing her ideas for A Room Within A Room, the exhibitions showing here are the result of those artistic journeys.

“Â minnau’n Gymraes, ond wedi fy ysbrydoli gan Gelfyddyd Werin o Ddwyrain Ewrop mae fy mywyd a’m harfer artistig wedi’u cordeddu ar draws gwledydd lawer. Mae Ystafell o fewn Ystafell yn benllanw fy hoff ddarluniau o lawer taith ac mae’n cynnwys – ymysg pethau eraill – flows a chap o Piestany, Slofacia a gwn gwely streipiau coch a bwrdd teircoes o Gymru a chadair o’r amgueddfa win yn Bratislava.”

Yn 2014 cafodd Julia ei dyfarnu â Gwobr Cennad Cymru Greadigol i ailymweld â Dwyrain Ewrop a threulio peth amser yng Nghanolfan Grefftau Rhuthun yn datblygu ei syniadau ar gyfer Ystafell o Fewn Ystafell. Mae’r arddangosfeydd sy’n cael eu dangos yma’n ganlyniad y teithiau artistig hynny.
