Tomos Williams is an artist based in Cardiff whose practice is centred on ideas of place, text, textile and stitch.

Tomos was brought up in a household where studio ceramics were very present. His parents regularly bought pots and when he was about 30, Tomos realised that he had caught the bug.

Tomos is moved by different types of clay and textures and marks left by the potter. These all contribute to understanding how the piece relates to a particular time, place and culture.

Both ceramics and textiles share that they cannot really be understood until they are held. The awareness that comes from touch is the motivation behind this handling session.

Among the potters represented will be established and familiar names: Lisa Hammond, Mike Dodd, Ray Finch, Elspeth Owen and the less familiar: Frances Lloyd Jones, Deiniol Williams and Tarragon Smith.

The session takes place in Claire Curneen’s exhibition and will reference her work along with the pieces Tomos brings.

Grŵp Oedran – Oedolyn

Mae Tomos Williams yn artist sydd wedi'i leoli yng Nghaerdydd ac mae ei ymarfer yn canolbwyntio ar syniadau o le, testun, tecstil a phwyth.

Cafodd Tomos ei fagu mewn cartref lle'r oedd cerameg stiwdio yn bresennol iawn. Roedd ei rieni'n prynu potiau'n rheolaidd a phan oedd tua 30 oed, sylweddolodd Tomos ei fod wedi cael y chwant.

Mae Tomos yn cael ei ysybrydoli gan wahanol fathau o glai, gweadau a marciauc a raglennir gan y crochenydd. Mae'r rhain i gyd yn cyfrannu at ddeall sut mae'r darn yn gysylltiedig ag amser, lle a diwylliant penodol.

Mae gan bob cerameg a thecstil y nodwedd nad oes modd deall nhw'n gyfan gwbl nes eu dal. Y dealltwriaeth sy'n dod o gyffwrdd yw'r ysgogiad tu ôl i'r sesiwn o ddelio â'r gwrthrychau hyn.

Ymhlith y chrochenwyr â gynrychiolir bydd enwau sefydledig ac adnabyddus: Lisa Hammond, Mike Dodd, Ray Finch, Elspeth Owen a'r rhai llai cyfarwydd: Frances Lloyd Jones, Deiniol Williams a Tarragon Smith.

Mae’r sesiwn yn digwydd yn arddangosfa Claire Curneen a bydd yn cyfeirio at ei gwaith ynghyd â’r darnau y mae Tomos yn eu rhoi.
